Elizabeth Wilbraham had an important design input to one of Britain's most significant country houses - Badminton House, Gloucestershire.
With its pilastered elevation, Badminton House, named as one of the ten best houses in Britain according to Nikolaus Pevsner, claims multiple prominent architects of its time including Elizabeth Wilbraham, William Kent, James Gibbs, Charles Bridgeman and for the gardens, “Capability” Brown.
There are a number of compelling similarities to Wilbraham's work on Somerset House but also the replacement of the casement windows by sash, the removal of the cupola, and the regularisation of the windows of the earlier wings on either side of the front.
In 1750 the addition of a giant pediment to designs by William Kent, altered the front at Badminton. Originally Badminton had large areas of flat roof, a Wilbraham hallmark.
