Recently I was looking to optimize the sound of one of my banjos, a 24" scale open-back with a Dobson tone-ring in 12" diameter. I used to slant my bridge, and that would choke off the sustain a little bit. Let me tell you, this thing went from a cheap knock-around introductory banjo to a sweet-toned loud professional sound like there was some magic going on. He even tweaked the string spacing for me, as the stock bridge had the strings a little too close together for me. That is a huge compliment. The banjo has no more intonation issues up-neck. I have a couple of other Scorpion bridges made with European maple. I also have an afromosia/katalox bridge from David on an RK-35. Bart recommended 46 mm string spacing because this would make double thumbing easier to do.
